First of all. Been there done that. Project Tigerhound and Task Force Tally Ho. Ever heard of FACs. Forward Air Controllers? I was an Intel Specialists with a group that flew "over the fence" into Laos in '66. 01E's are not the kind of aircraft to go trolling for ground fire but they did it and paid the price. Was involved in the "Secret War in Laos" so I know where you're coming from. The Ravens flew just to the north of our AO. There was so much shit going on in Laos when I was there that you needed a dance card to keep the players straight.

Now for today's up date. I am also a CERT instructor and a 29 year veteran firefighter currently a Captain on Heavy Rescue 1 in Omaha NE. At 63 I am still qualified as High Angle Rescue, Trench Rescue/Recovery, Confined Space Rescue, WMD/Haz-Mat Tech Specialists, and RIC (Rapid Intervention Crew) We search for and Rescue our own, firefighters. We stand by at all working fires and only go into action if a fellow brother or sister is lost, unaccounted for, or a MAYDAY is called.

Reading your book brought back some places I was in in '65 in the same neck-of-the-woods you were in. Howard Air Base Panama to name one. Tigerhound and Tally Ho have been declassified but some of the other
stuff hasn't.

Can you trace your family name, King, back very far? My mother's side is King and it dates back to the 1600's in Delaware. Our family Hx book mentions a lot of Kings living in Washington state. The Thorogood name is English and I am first generation in my family. My Dad was in the 94Th Infantry in WWII. He was naturalized, the day after I was born, at Camp Riley Kansas. Needless to say I had some large boots to fill when I enlisted. My Dad was the one who suggested the AF and not the Army because the AF was just starting to get into the covert stuff in '63 when I enlisted and he knew I was into that kind of stuff.

Some of the guys, our instructors, were ex-OSS guys who had worked with Wild Bill Donahue in WWII. So what you've written about and experienced is not earth shattering to me. What is--is the fact that our own would do what you said they did and I believe you when you say it. Our neighborhood paperboy just got out of the Army Special Forces after 23 years and tried to commit suicide because of the betrayals. His specialty was paramedic, Spanish and Intel. He is now retired and a member of the old farts breakfast club. We meet for fellowship and mutual support.

Your book was very comforting, if that's the right phrase, and when the time is right I will give it to my ex-Army friend to read.

Oh yea...I have a place where I keep my demons. They never really go away. Damn SOB's come back just when you think life is honky dory.

Stay safe my fellow Veteran and keep a watchfull eye out and don't step on any trip wires. I learned the string thing from a USMC instructor at the Air Intelligence School in Denver CO. God that was a long time ago.

Mr.King,

My name is SSG Michael W. Sanderson and I am stationed with Delta Company 3/25th Aviation Battalion out of Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. I am currently in my 18th year as a Soldier. I am a UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopter Technician and currently serving in the capacity as a Quality Control Technical Inspector. I read your book and was astonished but not surprised at your situation. I fully support you and your teams efforts in doing the right thing even if it sometimes may be out of the ordinary. The efforts you and your team and many others in Spec Ops put forth in the protection of our Civilians and Military alike in our great nation never go unnoticed. I can only speak for me but I applaud you and those whom have worked for and with you as well as all Spec Ops. My deepest heartfelt condolences go out to your loss of teammates throughout your career. After reading your book (one that I had a hard time putting down) I just could not understand why our own people those in office whom have sworn to uphold the law and protect the weak, would set a goal to destroy ones who they created in an effort to help protect the weak. Mr.King, I just wanted to simply say, thank you for all you and your teams throughout our history have done to help others and the cost you willed to take in an order to do what most of us never have the courage to do. Again, thank you and God speed to all Spec Op Warrior's in our service, you will never be forgotten, at least not in my book.

Liked it and the part regarding the double-cross and other such details isn't difficult to believe, whatsoever.

Personally, I've never fought in a war, served in the military, or otherwise even sought out such work yet via my technical aptitude/expertise I have contracted with approximately 22 firms to date some of those being military/paramilitary. Now, most of the jazz I've seen and experienced has been at the "business" or civilian level yet the necessary (or not) corruption was often just as shocking and the ties between the two universes...in some cases there appears to be little difference.

After having met a person with a profile "similar" to yours while working in Huntsville, AL I would offer this observation: all those employed in such a capacity seemed to be used (voluntarily, of course) and tend to meet a similar end having extensive injuries, dependence on pain killers, and, of course, a paranoia that starts to pervade their personal lives as eventually they seemed to get lied to or otherwise double-crossed as an almost necessary evil making it very difficult to trust anyone (which also must be deemed convenient when it comes time to "debrief" them).

It was a great book and I realize everyone involved "volunteers" for the high-adrenaline type work yet the need to dispose of such individuals...well, that's one hell of a retirement plan and considering the sacrifices made very disappointing.

E

PS Some of what you write precisely mirrors what I have read in such books as "Defrauding America" which oddly enough jibes with at least 7 to 8 other books written on similar subjects including the S&L crisis. In my personal opinion, as corporate America and "business" has overwhelmed our culture and government there are evermore missions in both the private and military sectors that are entirely profit motivated.

Hi Bob
Thank you for your response. It shows great character.

I hope you can forward this e-mail to whom ever would be responsible for creating the movie. The story line would be considerably more interesting then a lot of other movies out there today ie Jar-head etc etc. Especially if you market it as a true story.

Don't accept it as a "B" movie either. This story deserves more then that!!.

Good luck with your position within the school district and hope the family is doing fine.

I hope to see the movie on the Big Screens in the future. I wish I knew who and how to contact those I would need to help get this going. You should forward all your e-mails and reviews to the director to show him the support behind this - which you probably have.

Hi Shawn,
I'm glad you liked the book and I hope your wife and family are doing well! As for the movie, they tell me it is still in the works but I am not going to hold my breath. Without a lot of noise from book fans, I'm not sure it will ever be make.

As for finding a new book, you might try amazon.com, they have them there and you should not have a problem getting one.

I still have a very close connection with the police. I am the Director of Security for the local school district and we have two police officers who work for me during the school year as our SRO's (School Resource Officer). I work very closely with all the law enforcement agencies in the area and I'm glad I do. After spending 16 years as a police officer, I just can't get it out of my blood, I'm sure you know what I mean.

Again, thanks for your e-mail and my very best to you and your family.

A man like you gives me perspective on the “problems” I incur in my life, I know this may sound bad but when I think of the issues you have had to endure it gives a little strength to move forward with the issues I must go through. George Orwell once said, ”People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.” You and your men are those great warriors who let us all love our wives, children, and everyday lives. You are the true embodiment of BUSHIDO. We will forever be in debt to you and your men and all the other sung/unsung heroes of this nation. May you and your family live many years in peace and happiness.
Best Wishes, thank you

I read your book, and while I do believe our gov’t has a very defined and intentional degree of corruption, it bothers me that people who claim to have all this top secret info, never do a damn thing with it, it seems to me that would be the first logical step to cleaning up the mess. So even if every word in your book is true, it doesn’t mean shit, because you’re not interested in anything but saving your own ass, which is understandable, but still it seems that somebody, someday is going to have to be a true patriot and do what is right. Thank u for the reading, I enjoyed it.

Dear Mr. King,
Well it feels sort of strange calling you Mr. King since I oddly feel like I know you-which I guess is something that happens when you write a book like The Final Mission.

Your book is so well written-I could not put it down and read the entire thing last night. I had to write you and say THANK YOU for your courage to come forward and share your story with the public. And thank you to you and your team for being American heroes but never getting any of the glory. I wish there was something else I could do for you guys---the true unsung heroes. At this point, I guess the best thing I can do is help promote your book and get the word out-so consider it done.

It is my hope that you have been able to allow new friends into your life. I know they can never match what you had with Spooky8, but I do hope that you let people get close to you and it's my sincerest wish that none of those people ever hurt you. You've had enough hurt and loss-----so cheers to your future! You deserve the best!

Hugs,
Kate Kelly

P.S. I thought wild things had happened to me (I was hit by lightning) until I read your book and realized my life has been a walk in the park!

Dear Mr. King
I greatly enjoyed your book and the insight that it gave me into the shadow world of SpecOps. I find it a terrible shame that you and your team were treated in such a fashion. As a veteran of the Navy I find it repulsive that our country would treat our heros the way you guys have been treated. I would like to say from the bottom of my heart "thank you" and may God bless and watch over you.

I've finished reading your book, "The Final Mission:Spooky 8", and its a real eye opener. I think your biggest problem was not being able to believe that YOUR government could turn against you at ANY time. Were most of the debriefings started under the Bush era or another one.. Bush, being the former head of the CIA may have had alternate reasons for wanting to get rid of certain operatives. If our great goverment could burnup those poor kids at Waco, they can do anything given a justification in their own minds. I don't think ya'll were being paid enough money either if you ask me. I wouldn't have gone on those missions for the amount of cash ya'll took, it would have had to be on an order of 10X what you got..LOL..!!! Not enough risk-reward if you know what I mean.

I've always thought that the reason the U.S. government doesn't REALLY want to stop the drug trade is that TOO MANY people in government are making money off it. Stamp it out OR legalize it and the profit for a lot of people goes out the window. Correct. Keeping it at the present status-quo is the most profitable thing they could do..!!!! They can finance their own projects from the profits and put a lot away for a rainy day, very tempting for any individual. Many of these people will only be in power for 4-8 years, so they have to get it while the getting is good. If your team, or anyone else stands in the way, watch out..!!!!
I wish you and your family the best.

After rereading your book for the 5th time, I was curious to know what is the status of the movie or possibly a second book? I know that you wrote the first, because the government isn' t always looking out for the peoples best interest, however I believe that there is an audience that would appreciate reading or seeing about the events that you have experienced.

Once again, I thank you for your service to this great country (not the politicians). I know you were not a Marine, however your service has exemplified our motto and also reminds us that Freedom Isn't Free.

Mr King,
I am no X-File conspiracy theory type to say the least, but on the other hand, after 16 years in the Navy, and now a Chief Petty Officer in charge of managing and supervising anti-terrorism defense on Oil Platforms in Iraq, I DON'T TRUST the same people writing my check. It's been over the last year with everything coming out about Iraq and the non-existance of any of the WMD we originally invaded for, that I find it hard to trust anyone who resides with a business address of Washington, DC.

I have always been entrigued about, and highly desirable of, being a part of a small unit of people like the ones you say you had for this team. That kind of loyalty is so hard to find nowadays on larger scales. Everyone just seems to be out for themselves, and Sailors are often left on their own. Small unit tactics just DON'T exist anywhere for the Navy, unless you are a Seal.

I have chosen law enforcement/military police as my professionm, but with the events of 9/11, our focus of military police in the Navy is gone in the way I grew up over the last 16 years. Everything is Force Protection/Anti-Terrorism.

I commend you greatly for coming out with this book, and only wish I would have known something about it before yesterday when I bought it for a medevac flight out of Iraq. I read the first 120 pages or so last night, couldn't put it down. Think I am right about where you send the three guys back to the states, and you and Lucky are staying for another day or something. Pretty sure I am going to find out soon, who your problem was with. I express my deepest sympathies for the loss of people you called 'brothers' as you put your life in their hands, and asked them to do the same with theirs, so many times before the Final Mission. I commend you for coming out with this book, because regardless of what all the politicians say, I don't see it as you having anything to gain by the release of this information, but everything to lose by it. What I see the nation having to gain by it, is for some that walk around in blind faith, that our government is not so governmental and professional at times when they are trying to cover up for their behind the scenes mistakes and such.

A very powerful and captivating account of your Army and team exploits. You have done well and I wish you nothing but the best in the future and hope that in some personal way, you find vindication for the atrocities committed on you and your team by those in our higher level of government secrecy. I have to go finish the book now.
Respectfully,
Philip

Wow...I can honestly say that I have never read a book quite like yours. I bought it yesterday at lunch and finished it a few hours later. although I am not surprised at all that there are 'agencies' out there that do this. it would be naive to think that stuff like this never happens. hopefully it doesn't anymore, but I am sure it does. it's an amazing book and I am glad that there are men like yourself out there who are unafraid to take a stand against people who would compromise what America stands for. I was wondering what you thought about the private contracting firms like Blackwater and others like it.

Hello Mr. King my name is Jonathan Norris. I'm 19 and currently stationed at FT. Lewis, WA with the 3rd BDE 2 ID. Just thought i'd drop a email to you to let you know how much I enjoyed your book. I just finished today and throughly enjoyed reading it. I myself have been seriously considering going to selections for SF after I do my tour in Iraq coming up later this year. Still havent made up my mind yet but i'll probably end up going for it. My battle buddy from basic was an 18X. He's made the selection process and is now starting his MOS training to be a SF medic. I know from talking with him and my ranger buddies that the regular army is just not enough for me; I throughly enjoy being with the kind of people that are in these units and that is the only place that I would wont to spend any more time in the army. Well anyways I've already probably bored you with a bunch of stuff from a stranger you dont even know, but if you have any advice I would apperciate it. Thank you and thanks for your book.

I just got done reading your book "The Final Mission". I could hardly put it down, and knowing it really happened, made it even more riveting. I have always known the U.S Government had secret covert operations, but up until I read your book, did I ever think that the very people that was putting their lives on the line for the U.S.A, would become the enemy, to be killed after they valiantly done their jobs.

I take my hat off to you and everybody in your team that has valiantly put your lives on the line, for all those years. I got really angry, reading about the greed that the very people that are suppose to be working for the people ,was lining their pockets with drug money , and using people like yourself to carry out the missions, to consider you expendable in the end. I would like to see people like that in prison, but of course, we know that the prison system for the elite is in no way like the prison setting for the local population. Come to think of it......our top Government officials are about as corrupt as they come. I think of Capital Hill as a Den of Thieves.

Wishing you and your family well.

Hello Mr. King,
I just finished reading your book tonight. I wanted to thank you for everything you have done for this country, for yourslef, and your team. You will never get the recognition that you and your team deserve(or any other black ops team for that matter.) I have read alot of books that talk about the hard truths about our goverment, and it angers me, but it is what it is, and will probally never change. I wish I could do something. You have shown the courage and honor of 1000 men to write this book and take a stand, I commend you. I hope that many more read your book and come to realize what is out thier behind that black curtain, and what they don't tell our special operators out running thier operations, I will do my part and pass your book on to many others to read. I
have alot of respect for you and your team. Thank you, I wish I could do more for you.

Hi Bob,
I purchased your book, and I thought so much of it, that I passed it along to my son, who just retired from the Air Force. By the way, I am a retired Air Force enlisted veteran, with a tour in Vietnam, at DaNang AFB, 68/69. It is a pleasure to sit down and read a book like yours. I guess I am still a guy who tells it like it is, rather than tell it like someone wants to hear it. Political correctness has no place in my household. When your book becomes a movie, I will be first in line to purchase a ticket. THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY.

Mr. King,
I originally heard your story a couple of years ago when you did an interview on a talk radio show. I eventually bought your book and greatly enjoyed it. I served for over 8 years, 1985 – 1994, with the U.S. Army at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. Three of those years as a military policeman and the remaining time as an operator with the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment. Upon leaving the service I too entered law enforcement and have found it to be the only place where I could experience the rush that a true adrenaline junkie craves!!! I developed, trained and equipped our department’s first tactical team and am also in charge of firearms and professional development training for our agency.

It was very refreshing to hear someone speak of the matters that you have. As a current swat team leader and former “operator” I still receive calls from former friends, who have now retired, regarding getting involved in contracting. Due to family concerns (being a single parent of a 14 year old boy) and maybe a “sixth sense” I have passed them up. I still miss a lot about the special operations community but, overall, I am glad that I have chosen the path that I have.

All of that being said, I want to thank you for your service within the armed forces, the time that you spent contracting and your service as a law enforcement officer/trainer. Thanks for educating many on what they have no idea has/is taking place as well maintaining your sense of honor, both to yourself as well as your team.

Best Regards,

I was looking over your book reviews and considering a purchase. I'll be straight up with you bro, this all seems a tad too much. I mean look, no disrespect intended at all and understand I haven't read the book, but you're using some real idiots on your book review link and that just smacks of amatuer hour. Take the last review for example, nice grammer. You've got people on the list, including you in your biography section, who boast of the fact that they never read books...as if that is some kind of redeeming quality in a professional warrior when in fact, as we all know, it is quite the opposite. A professional studies his trade...ever heard of Sun Tzu? On another link, you claim to not be allowed to mention some offical who died in a kayaking accident. Note to your lawyer: it's not a crime to say a dead man is dead.
Look, I dont tout myself as some high speed low drag guru. I spent 8 yrs in Marine Corps line infanry and STA Platoons. Frankly, that has toned my ears into men who really talk the talk. Unless you can convince me otherwise, I have no intention or purchasing your book. Feel free to write back and correct me on any points. ---Mike

First of all, your book is amazing. I have really enjoyed reading it. It's fast and it cuts through most of the BS that other authors of specops books put in. This type of work has always fascinated me and I'm really glad that I have found a book, yours, to "enlighten" me more on the subject. I've always thought my father might have been involved in something such as Spooky 8, but I will never know due to his untimely death in 1999. Your words of "finding the truth on your own" and "don't let anyone tell you what is and isn't true" really mean a lot to me and
I've tried my best to always follow those. Anyways, thank you for the great read. I wouldn't mind seeing

Bob,
First I want to thank you for all you’ve done for this country that we will never know about. I read your book & am just totally amazed at all you & your team endured at the hands of our government. If you do ever get the opportunity to talk to them I hope you tell them that we are all in their debt. To think that this would happen to our brave men & women is just horrible. Since reading your book I have read many books by the great men of our country, & to think of all you guys have gone threw that people don’t ever seem to pay any attention to is very saddening. I only hope that you guys know that even though ungrateful people seem to be everywhere, the majority of our country truly honors you. You have really opened my eyes & many others to the dark side of our great country.

Do you have any plans to write another book? If so any timeline on it?

Is there any way I can have the honor of getting your autograph on your book?

Thank you for all you have done

My name is Taylor Phillips I live in south Georgia, and yes I am a full-blooded redneck. I recently bought your book and started reading it. I have read other books by other authors about Delta Force and Navy SEALs. Reading those books has led me to believe this story. I have always wanted to be in the Military, unlike my friends who think it's stupid think cause it docent pay much, well I never care much about money its the pride, but not sure which branch yet. Your book is well written and cant wait for the movie. I was wondering if you could me some advice on which branch to join and if you are writing any other books about the missions you accomplished over your career and have you seen any of you old buddys from S8?

Bob,

My name is Larry Nevinger. Originally I am from Missouri, retired in 1992, and settled in Shelton, WA. I am an out spoken redneck at heart.

I just finished reading your book, "SPOOKY 8". It was great, man! Wish I could say I recognize your picture. I want to say that I recognize SPOOKY, but I can't be for sure. I have a lot of lost memories from those days. I'll be 53 in June.

I suppose you must get a lot of these letters, but I was at Bragg shortly before you or while you were in training. I arrived in 1971 assigned to 5th SFG(A). My team was the 82nd MP Det then it changed before I left to the 255th MP Det. CPT Jack Conners was out Team Leader. Our Team House overlooked the NCO Club and we were close to the mata mile course. Anyway, went to Vietnam in 1972, and stayed until 60 days after the "Cease Fire". I came home for 30 days before being reassigned to Korea.

My involvement in SF was brief, but I do remember being part of White Star 2, and heard many stories about our guys going into Cambodian and Laos. Perhaps you heard of FANK Training Command? Have you ever heard of the cowboy or Jimmy R. Whitherspoon while in Vietnam? Just seeing if we have anything in common.

OH, I was also at Eglin AFB attending one of COL Rowe's E&E Courses that later became S.E.R.E. Hank Emerson was the USAIMA CG. The 5th SFG(A), 7th SFC(A), and the 82nd were all there. Long DZ there and I was a wind dummy. As I recall SF jumped while the All Americans landed at Eglin. LOL! I think we were still using the T-10 Steerable? It was the one with them yellow hash marks.

I am on your side. De Oprso Liber!

Dear Mr. King,
I'm joining the U.S.M.C. I was wondering if you would be able to write more books for to read during basic. To be honest, I absolutly think that you're #1 on my greatest authors list. But I was wondering when the movie was going to come out, on the back page it said,"Soon To Be A Motion Picture!" Is that true? If it already did, what is the movie?
God Bless to all of those warriors who have fought and lived and fought and died for the one thing that they love the most...us...their home...The United States of america.

Mr. King,
I just read your book. Wow. I just have a few questions. Did the idea ever enter your mind when you were entering the hanger in southeast asia for your first assignment, that something like what happened was going happen? Knowing what you know now, what if anything would you tell yourself at that moment? And my last question is would you have pursued that life even if you knew what the results would be, basically do you think that the things your team did accomplished anything of a worthy cause? Thanks for your time.

Mr. King-
I just finished reading your book earlier today and I honestly thought it was a very intriguing, well-written, thought-provoking work. I hope that it can be made into a movie or at least made into some means to reach a larger audience.
I was reading through your website and I noticed you were in the Civil Air Patrol. I am in the Fairfax Squadron near DC, and I live in vienna, the same town you mention in your book. I joined CAP 3 years ago when I was 12. I am currently nominated for medical staff at the tri wing encampment this summer, and am also attending CAP ranger school this summer. I'll be getting my pilot's "permit" (I'll be able to fly a plane by myself, but I must have someone older than 18 with a pilot's license in the plane) next summer.
My question is this: I've always wanted to join the military for as long as I can remember, but I've never been able to tell what I should do. My mom wants me to be a doctor, my dad usually just encourages whatever I say I want to be. I've gone from wanting to be a pilot, to a ranger, to a marine, to a SEAL. Now that I've met someone of your experience, I'd like to ask your opinion. I apologize if this is a waste of time, but I thought this could help me pick something. Please, you would be a great help.
-Thanks,
Sean
I was also wondering how far you climbed the ranks of CAP and until what age you participated.

Mr. King:
Thanks so much for actually taking the time to send a return email. That meant a lot to me. As I said before, I cannot wait for your next book and (hopefully soon) your movie. I'll be the first one waiting in line. Thanks for your work, both to our country and as an author. I've set your web page as my home address. I will be looking for news and updates. Thanks again.

Date: 1/4/2005 4:27:36 AM Pacific Standard Time
Dear Bob,
I can't express my sincere thanks and heartfelt gratitude enough for what you and your team have done for every American dead and alive. I truly believe that the government can be so evil!! At the present time my husband is serving in OIFll, and I worry all the time as to what dangers the government, that he defends and serves whole heartedly, are going to put him in and how many lies they are going to tell him to keep his hunger to serve. It scares me to death to know that the government can play with peoples lives like that and not even give a rats behind!! I don't even know if it would make a difference if it was there own family out there if they would change the way that they run things, as cold hearted as they are I doubt it very much. I just wanted to say Thank-You to Spooky8 and all of the men and women that serve this country. Without you I would hate to see where this country would be today. Thank-You and God Bless You All!!!!
This war has been hard on me with my husband gone, but I can't even begin to imagine how hard it is on the ones that have to serve in it!! GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!
Thank-you so much,
Bernice

Hello Mr. King. My name is Jessica and I am 20 years old. Your book is amazing and once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. I must say that I do in fact believe that our government would do such horrible things to it's own. I have always, in the back of my mind, believed that our government was capable of doing such things to human beings and not caring about it. Our government isn't about what's best for us, it's about money and how to stay ahead, no matter the cost, whether it be "weapons of mass destruction", drugs, or human lives. When I read the documents in the appendix, it actually hit home that those things happened and they continue to happen as you read this. Right now someone is risking their life to "better" a government that doesn't care if they live or die.....Honestly the government is probably monitoring this website.....so watch yourself.

Thank you to and the rest of the Spooky 8.....if you have a free moment I would like to chat with you.... thanks again for such an eye-opening book....

Dear Mr. King,
I have not yet finished reading your book, but I have definately come to the conclusion that it is an excellent one. You have no idea how much I respect and admire you and your comrades, as well as the men and women in the armed services and law enforcement today. My dad is ex-325th PIR,82nd abn div and ever since I was 2, I wanted to be in the army. I am now 13, and haven't changed my mind. Sir, I have never considered much about joining SF or Delta Force or anything like that, but after hearing your story, you have inspired me to join the US Army Special Forces. It is an honor to be writing to you, and I thank you so much for defending our country whether domestically as a Law Enforcement official, or across seas in the military, and I want you to know you are appreciated.
Sincerely,
Chris
P.S. - Please E-Mail me because I would like to know some things about what kind of things the military does.

Subj: I enjoyed your book.

Mr. King,
My name is Sarah Goodpasture, and I am a United States Marine. I usually don't get into too many war books, unless it has to do with governemnt cover-ups or other such issues. I picked up your book one day like I do all the rest, and instead of reading about some horrorfic war story, your story was different. It was just the kind of reading that I enjoy. I am proud to know that there are still a few true American soldiers (or Marines -in my case), that are willing to stand up for the truth no matter what the cost-and for that I salute you. I would like to thank you, and your family for standing by you in your decision to make the truth known, so that other Americans/Military members may be better informed about our goverment's actions, and take a stand with you. As a young Marine I can relate to much of what you wrote about. As I read through your website I saw that you posted my little brother's -mail on it under Reviews (Cesario Lopez-akaD.J.). He was very excited about that. Thank you.

If at all possible, would you be willing contact me- I would be honored to speak with you, and hear your opinion on other government issues, and topics.

Respectfully sent,

I'm not sure, i think I noticed a picure of you holding a STEYR AUG, if so was that your weapon of
choice? or was that picure taken in south america? I'm interested also onhow much ammo your team carried,
and if you made contact, how long could you engage at best to survive? ... maybe one or two firefughts.. I
realize that your team is more set up for he 8man LRP teams, as opposed to he modern 6man LRRP teams, and sop would be get tha hell outand fire and manuever, leapfrog tha fuck out, etc.I'm curious to know if or how many SAW gunners were in your team, and was thata normal SOP?... And were they stoners because of the compatability with .223? Last resort, M-16 clip etc.....?

My sister and I both study government cover-ups. I beleive every word in your book. You mentioned something about operation "just cause". I was watching an informational video by Al Cuppet and he also mentioned operation just cause, so that confirmed that. If you have any additional info on any similar government actions I would be honered to see it. Please e-mail me.

Subj: Quick Question if you have the time
Date: 10/17/2004
I won't take up too much of your time but would like to say that your book was an excelent insight to the controlling power of our government. They always have to be in control. But it is above my pay grade to ask any questions.
I'm not sure if you respect servicemembers but you seem like a good person to ask a question about some things I have on my mind.
I am currently in the USAF serving in OIF. My current job is a photographer. It sounds a lot of fun to many but I don't get any job satisfaction out of it. I need something with a little more action and gratification. I have worked closely, but not neccesarily with different members of the Special Operations community documenting their training and for morale purposes. One that intrests me a lot is the Para Rescue carrer field. What is your opinion on these people... the base that I am from in the states is a Combat Rescue Wing and full of PJ's... they love it but I have no outside opinions on this job.
I'm not sure if you would know anything about this but if you do please advise.

If this is a waste of your time, then I am sorry for bothering you and wish you the best. I respect what you have done in life and for this country. I know the government is in control, but if not for you, your team, and the teams like them... we may not enjoy the freedoms that we have today.

Comments about your book, "The Final Mission"
I was skeptical about your stories in your book. I wonder what was or is your point for published your book. If you feel like you dislike to publish your stories, then why did you already published your stories? That did not make sense. You DO NOT have to tell your stories but you can withheld by yourself. It is our choice to hear the truth. If you feel regret to publish your stories, it is your LOSS. Also it is your problem. I laughed at you for speaking out to the public.

DEAR BOB,

JUST THOUGHT I WOULD SAY THANX TO YOU AND YOUR GUYS FOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE AND FACED AND ALL THAT YALL HAVE BEEN THROUGH.
I READ YOUR BOOK THE OTHER DAY, AND YOU DAMN RIGHT I BELIEVE IT. IT WAS BY FAR THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ. I COULDNT IMAGINE GOING THROUGH WHAT YOU HAVE WENT THROUGH IN YOUR LIFE. MUST HAVE BEEN PURE HELL.
YOU KNOW I CAN HONESTLY BELIEVE THAT OUR GOVT. DID THAT TO YOU BECAUSE MY GRANDFATHER WAS IN WWII AND WAS DECORATED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE BRONZE STAR AND THE PRESIDENTIAL CITATION WERE SOME OF HIS ACHIEVMENTS. HOWEVER, AT AGE 72, HE SOLD WHAT HE OWNED FOR 20,000 DOLLARS AND THE GOVT. TOOK AWAY HIS VA BENEFITS BECAUSE HE HAD TO MUCH MONEY. NICE HUH.
WELL, I GUESS I SHOULD CLOSE FOR NOW. I AM CURRENTLY DRIVING A TRUCK IN IRAQ, SUBCONTRACTING FOR KBR. WRITE BACK IF YOU WISH. MY EMAIL IS driftintrucker@hotmail.com.MY NAME IS JOHN GRIFFIN. IT HAS BEEN A PLEASURE TALKING WITH YOU.
TO YOU AND ALL THE VETERNS OUT THERE I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANX AND GOD BLESS.

JOHN

Sept. 30, 2004

just wanted to say thanx for doing all you did and to your guys as well.as for your book, you damn right i believe it and i wish our country was composed of more people like you and spooky8.
i have never been in the military, hell all i have ever done was be a farmer in arkansas and that didnt pay off so i am currently in iraq driving a truck, subcontracting for the govt.
i have been here for 7 months. the worst thing that happened to me was two 155mm's tied together under the road went off and blew the truck in front of me up and blew my windshield in. pretty much nothing in comparison to what you went through.
my grandfather was a hero in the second world war and by the way, at age 72 he sold everything he had for twenty thousand dollars and the govt. decided he had to much money and cut off his v.a. benefits. so to all of you guys out there, i want to say thanx for doing all that yall done.
GOD BLESS YOU, BOB

Sir,

I would like to congratulate you on the massive move you have taken getting your book published. I sort of know how it feels to be let down (without the life threaten scenes) and knowing that you can never be the same person you were. My out take on it is as follows: fuck it! Deal with it and adjust fire. This is from a former 82nd Airborne Paratrooper that has lost most of his hearing and just got back into running due to complications.
All I say to myself is there is worse SM out there then myself. All I got is my honor and pride and that is all I need. I am truly amazed by you and your courage and I would like to thank you and your team for what you all
have done. "It is those unspoken, unseen soldiers that we forget to appreciate"

IT HAS BEEN A FEW MONTHS SINCE WE LAST SPOKE (8/11/03), & I HOPE ALL HAS BEEN WELL WITH YOU. I KNOW THE INITIAL MOVIE DEAL FOR THIS FELL THROUGH, HAVE ANY NEW DEVELOPMENTS OCCURRED? I SINCERELY HOPE THAT A MOVIE DEAL COMES THROUGH, BECAUSE THE AVERAGE AMERICAN NEEDS TO KNOW THESE TYPES OF THINGS DO HAPPEN. I read your book in two days and a half. ive never read a book that fast before. Ive always been really suspicious aboout this government, that's why I couldn't put your book down. I ve always wanted to do something in the spec ops community, but after reading your book and a reasuring of my notions, I think I`ll pass. security work isnt too bad. has writing this book and talking about making a movie, and people talking about your life, has all this brought you any closure ? and how do you slay your demons. or deal with them?

Mr King, I read your book and I am not really surprised at the betrayal. I am in the military now and overseas in a "hot" spot. I can not understand how our "government" runs things and what people get away with. I am glad that you made it thru your "missions" and were able to write about it. I hope people realize that even United States is not as perfect as we profess to be or as free. God Bless your family in everything you do and Welcome Home.

Chance,
I just bought your book from the dollar store. As a former o311, it was exciting, interesting, and sometimes funny. However, you accidently spelled Marine CorpS wrong on this site, it isn't a corporation(corp) hence the apprevesion. Simply, Marine Corps.
regarding if I believe it or not; I think you should have include pix with faces blocked out and used actual names. If old Force Recon Marines and other spec ops can share their stories as late as the first Iraq war with no real threat, you could have too. All of us who served (combat) wil never tell EVERYTHING, but enough so that the facts won't be questioned.
Overall, great read man, and when the demons come, be thankful for the memories: don't try to get them to leave, see it as "what could they(the memories aka demons) be trying to tell me?"

Mr. King,

I would like to start off by saying I really enjoyed your book. As a young person who has read several books like yours, I've found that your story is truly eye-opening.

How do you feel about the people who are now protesting against the war in Iraq, and who do not support the US military's occupation in the middle eastern countries?

What would you say to the men who are now working under the same circumstances that you and your team worked?

Your book has really helped me understand the kind of lifesyles these brave men live.
Thank you

Mr King,

I have read your book now, 2 times. I found if highly fascinating and convincing. As a recent college graduate in history and polictical science, I am constantly trying to find non-mainstream information about military actions and politcal cover-ups. Your book was perhaps the most realistic. You seem to understand the power elite and there malvolent tactics. With this said, I was curious if you had any opinions on the JFK assasination. Who may have been involved? Motive for the assination? And there is only one detail the bothered me about your website and maybe its truely justified and the reason is over looked on my part. But I did not understand that if the book was for theraputic motives and a way to explain to the american people to stand up for the truth and such is to why you are now selling apparell. How does this relate to your reasons to share your great story with the public. I am sure you have a good reason. I hope that I get a respong to this email as it would be greatly appreciated for my future scholarship of American history special operations.

Best wishes,

Lew

Bob-
Your book was an epipheny for me. When my brother came back from Vietnam, he told me he was met by two CIA agents in CA- they told him that if he talked about what he knew- they'd kill him. Since that time, he's been quiet, he lives alone-separated from his wife and in a remote area. I am a psychologist and I have always thought it was just all made up- an excuse for his emotional problems and inability to relate to people. After reading your book, I see things differently. I thank you. I am going to respect my brother's wishes for solitude- but I am also sending him a copy of this book with a note begging his forgiveness.

9-11 seems to me to be a 'company' job with a little help from certain other people. I wonder, Bob, if you think we will ever find out the truth about this thing and if you could put me on to any readings that you would recommend. I felt hopeless about my brother until I read your book, I no longer do. I feel hopeless about this country. I have a nephew who joined the military and I am so worried about him- I just think that if we could get to the bottom of 9-11, we could start to address some of our internal abuses of loyal citizens by rogue organizations and the psycopaths who operate within them. I am not excluding very visible psychopaths at this time in history.

Bob, I would not ask you to jeopardize your own security, but if you could just reach out to me with further guidance, you would have helped lay to rest, some deep uncertainties in a woman with the desire for truth and the desire for a strong, decent country.

Sincerely,

Nina Chalfont

It's me again,I wrote you a long time ago,after I read your book a few times over.Their has only been a few other books,that I've read,that have moved me,such as your.It's hard to find a book,such as yours,that
the writer has been in the shit,(you) and make the reader, feel like he's their also. This book moved me,and I know you've been, and done what you say. Thanks for sharing it with me.The last time I talked with you,you told me,that you were going to write another book, and It would be fiction, and the reason was, because it's hard to write true stories, with out getting into trouble, and the reason you were going to write fiction, was because, you could write what you wanted (trueth).Have you writtin that book yet?And what about the movie, that was going to be made? Thank you for you time.

I wanted to thank you for telling your story I believe by doing this people will realize that everything is not what it seems when it comes to our government. I also had a few questions to ask. Did you ever get in touch with Stacey after all of this. I also wanted to ask you if you were ever hastled by anyone after you wrote the book.
It was a great book to read you done good. I wish you the best of luck in the future with everything you are doing. Thanks again.

P.S. In case you are suspicious, I have no affiliation with any law enforcement or government agency. If there is any way to verify this, I'd be glad to prove it, if you'd like. I don't know how much of a concern that is to you, but... one never knows.

Mr. King,
I have just bought your Spooky 8 book and have really enjoyed it. However, the reason for my email was to ask if you could provide me with some guidance and/or advice on my path in life. I have really been considering joining the Army for special forces, even before reading or knowing about your book. After I read your biography on your Spooky 8 Internet site I found out I have many of the goals you did while you were my age: always seeking adventure and new experiences. I am currently enrolled at a community college for a criminal law major. Although I don't really see myself as a police officer I would want a career for a national or state park, or something along those lines. I figure that special forces, or service in the military for that matter, would increase life experience and skills and greatly enhance opportunities for any career and path in life. However, the main piece of advice I would like to ask is the best path into Army special forces. Should I go through ROTC or just enlist and work toward special forces? I am not seeking glory or Hollywood super hero status from special forces, but life experience and a chance for real adventure. Any advice you could offer I would very much appreciate.
A fan,
Joey Tribby

First off I'd like to thank you for the job you did both military wise and in the writhing of Spooky 8. I just recently read your book and I think you did and outstanding job writing it. second I was thinking about joining the army via West Point and I know you weren't an officer, but I was wondering if you could just give me some insight as to what the army is like.
Up until reading your sitreps page I thought that the movie Clear and Present Danger was based on your book but now I know that it probably wasn't, but I do think that a movie should be made. It would help the message get out to a wider audience.

Re: Great Book
I just finished reading your book and was just overwhelmed by it. Overwhelmed with the full spectrum of emotions. It really makes one think of all the unknown that, until you, most people would not even have a clue about. I just don't really know where to begin with this e-mail but I could probably write another book just of responses to your book but I'll try to keep it reasonable.

I am 27yoa and live in the South-Eastern USA. I went with my girlfriend to return some of the books I bought her for Christmas of 03 and just happened to pick up your book. I had not heard of it before but it must have just been my lucky day. I have never been a big pleasure reader but I just couldn't't put it down. The very night I bought it I went back by my sisters house to watch the movie "Basic" with John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson. I had just barely started Spooky 8 but the beginning of the movie "Basic" started out very similar with an Army Black Hawk with what appeared to be a SPEC OPS team flying over the jungles. I mentioned that to the room that it started the same way, and as we watched we heard the term "spooks" from Travolta's character and just knew it had to be about the book. It was not until after reading more of Spooky 8 that I realized it wasn't.

My Father was in the US Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis time and was Honorably Discharged as a Major. I was never enlisted in the service for medical reasons having to do with my hearing. My Father gave me a great appreciation for our military as well as firearms and small ammunitions. I have a strong admiration for the Armed Forces of this country and especially for people like yourself and the other members of Spooky 8, as well as the other Spooky Teams. To read this story of duty, honor, bravery and, as stated in the book, "cast iron balls," is truly remarkable! I must say again that I admire you but don't envy you. The things that you must have seen and gone through are far beyond my imagination.

I anxiously await the movie and or sequal to the book. Also the S8 gear from the web site. I hope this finds you in good health, both physical and mental.

A word from Ft. Bragg where the warrior spirit lives on.
Mr. King,
I just finished reading your book and I have moved to the point that I needed to write you. You are a hero to guys like me, guys who are moved by their own Warrior Spirit. Unlike you, I was able to join the army directly off of the street. A year and a half ago I was a high school history teacher, and now I am graduating the Special Forces qualification course March 5th. I "desided," to write and let you know how sorry I am for all of your losses. I was pissed, to say the least, when I found out how my government, which I have sworn to defend, could order the deaths of America's best.
As I read your book I found myself caught up in the situations, the emotions, and the horror that your wrote about. I have always pushed my self to the limits, and I joined SF because people told me that I couldn't. I signed up as soon as I could get out of my teaching contract. At first I felt compelled to join the army out of my patriotic fervor that followed the events of 911; however, I have discovered that this line of work is something that I have always wanted to do. I couldn't make it out in your book whether or not you went through the Q course or not, so I wondered if you had.
I hope that this new generation of warriors will be as worthy of you and those to which you have served with. I can't help but feel that the government is still using America's best soldiers to do their dirty work, and until I read your book, I really thought about joining a civilian contracted, government sanctioned, organization such as dynocorp, and the hundreds that have emerged. I also thought that I wanted to eventually work for the CIA, but your book and other stories from retired SF guys, have made me realize that I don't want to find myself in situations like you endured.
I guess that I have taken up enough of your time and I have succeeded in telling you how good your book was and how much you inspire me and my friends. I hope that through my training, my devotion to this country, and my cast-iron balls, I can be half of the warrior you are. In closing, please note that you and people like you are the heros who inspire me and my peers to take our jobs to the next level and to also look after eachother, becasue as you know, this is a brotherhood, one I wish that I could share with you on my team.
Thanks for your time,
Mike McKinley

Hello Mr. King
My name is Gabriel, I am a 23 year old college student studying Military Science and who read Spooky8 over a year ago, and must have overlooked the website address on the back. On my Christmas break from school while im training for the Ranger Buddy I picked up Spooky8 again for some more inspiraction. I read your book cover to cover in one sitting, and i must say it was one of, if not the best book i have ever read. I dont know for a fact if your book is a real account, however i choose to believe that it is. I dont think i can ever really explain how your book helped me, but know that it changed my life. My parents often ask me why im training to be an officer, or why i jumped out of planes on my time off from school. Nothing i could say would make sense to them, but after reading your book I realized one thing. Freedom isnt Free. It takes men who have the balls to go take it that give Americans their Freedom. Thank you for writing Spooky8: The Final Mission.

Thank You
Ive been reading your book and its been very hard to put it down, everything that ever passed through my mind about the risk's of black ops have been answered. I never was apart of the military but alot of my family was and told me i should avoid it because how they got done wrong. I was in R.o.t.c. in highschool by sgt. was an ex green berate, and he was all for helping get in to the military to become a part of the special forces, I wanted to so bad, but i always had that filling that i would be killed by the people i would trust the most, but souldnt. Oh well im always preparing myself for something anyhow, just in case. I checked your website and noticed they was a update. I cant want to see your all's safehouse website. I hope that your movie comes out soon to show people the truth that many hate to hear, and are afraid that the truth is true. If you all ever need a safe hide ever just email me. i have an AOL email address too, but i'll always have this one.
Harold.

Mr. King,

I have just finished reading your book and I have to say that it is a very good story. I have had the idea of joining the military for a few years, not knowing which branch I wanted to join, and then I read your story. It makes me wonder if I even want to fight for a country that could do such a thing to its own people, especially the ones that have done such things as your self and your team. I did want to let you know that I can't wait until your second book comes out and I hope your movie deal goes through soon.

Sincerly,

Chris Dice

I just finished your book about a week ago and saw the web site so I decided to write you. that book is the only book I have ever really "wanted" to read. I think that what happened to Spooky 8 is bull shit. Did you ever meet up with Bates again? I hope you did and I hope you two were alone.
So what exactly in the book was altered? what I mean is what events were just so I know if a part was.
I appreciate what you have done and are still doing. keep it up. my friend Rob gave me your book to read, me and him are big into military shit. we both plan on going into the Marines, as Snipers. what kind of rifle do you suggest? I think that a 338 bolt action would do is that good? Rob has a 375 H&H Magnum and a 300 Magnum. are those good too? well write back when you can. ill keep in touch.
